Absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is referred to the number of neutrophil present in the
blood. The ANC test is a part of complete blood count (CBC) test. The ANC is not measured
directly, it is measured by the percentage of neutrophils in the differential WBC count. The
normal range of ANC for a healthy individual is 2,500 to 6,000 per micro-liter. Neutrophils
are one type of white blood cells which fight infections. An absence or insufficiency of
neutrophils puts a person vulnerable to infection. Your doctor may recommend an ANC test
to screen for a number of conditions, help diagnosing any condition, monitoring your health
status if you have an existing disease.
