OptiMAL is a rapid (10-min) malaria detection test which utilizes a dipstick coated with

monoclonal antibodies against the intracellular metabolic enzyme parasite lactate

dehydrogenase (pLDH). Differentiation of malaria parasites is based on antigenic

differences between the pLDH isoforms.
