A serum lipase test measures the amount of lipase in the body. Certain levels of lipase are

necessary to maintain normal digestive and cell function. But unusually high levels of the

enzyme in your blood may suggest a health problem, particularly in the pancreas.Lipase may

be increased in tumors of the pancreas, or stomach certain stomach conditions. These

conditions are usually painful. Gall bladder infection - Inflammation of the gall bladder

(cholecystitis), may cause increased lipase levels (hyperlipasemia). Kidney failure can cause

hyperlipasemia.
